I started training with Melody this summer because I was turning into
the Pillsbury Dough Girl and got nowhere when I tried to get fit on my
own. I met her to talk about goals, and she listened to what I wanted,
rahter than try to force a generic program on me.
The first few
weeks were pretty trying because I was in such lousy shape, but by the
end of the summer, I looked better and felt the best I've felt in
years. She got my heart rate down to under 60 bpm!!
I am impressed by her professionlism:
1.
No matter how crappy my attitude (I despise push-ups and at times am
rather vocal about it), she has never made a snide remark. She just
lets those comments roll off her back and disappear into thin air.
2.
Melody's very concerned about safety. She always demo's the exercise
first, corrects my form if I don't do it right, and for new exercises,
asks me if the weight is OK. When she asks me after every set how I
feel, she looks me in the eye to gauge whether I'm really OK or just
saying I am.
3. She varies the routine and explains what muscles
the exercises work. As you get stronger, she'll modify the exercises
to make them tougher. If you have a question about an exercise (or
anything else), she'll give you the answer.
4. She doesn't just train you in the gym; she tells you how to eat right too.
I
am jazzed about my fitness level now. Last school year I was tired all
the time, and had to sit at my desk more than I wanted to because of
it. This year I have a lot more energy and am waaaaay better at
walking around the room and helping out my students.
Working with Melody is the best thing you can do for yourself if you're serious about getting into shape.
